What is the treatment for AVN stage 2?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been diagnosed with AVN stage 2. How can I treat myself?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

You have been diagnosed with avascular necrosis of the femoral heads. While many surgeons recommend undergoing core decompression or total hip replacement, studies have indicated that medication has a high potential to prevent the need for surgery. I suggest you follow the below treatment,

  1. Take a tablet of Osteofos (Alendronic acid) 35 mg twice a week for one year (empty stomach early morning with two glasses of water and do not lie down or eat for 30 minutes after taking the tablets).

  2. Tablet Bio D3 strong (calcium) twice daily for one year.

  3. Tablet Uprise D3 (vitamin D) 60k once daily for 10 days then once a month for one year.

  4. Tablet Flexon (Paracetamol and Ibuprofen) twice daily for 15 days after food.

  5. Tablet Rabeprazole (antacid) 20 mg twice daily for 15 days after food.

  6. You should use a walking stick.

  7. You can walk but do not exercise or do physiotherapy.

Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
