Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 22 years old. I have severe pain in my lower back; it started about two years ago but has been on and off. The pain seems to get worse each time. The pain is mostly on my left side, with shooting pains going down my hips and leg. I cannot stand straight; it hurts to sit. I tried stretches to try and ease the pain, but it is not working. My dad and other relatives suffer sciatica and back pain; maybe it is something I have inherited? Is there any way to stop the pain?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Your symptoms are consistent with sciatica, likely due to acute disc prolapse and pressing on your spinal cord or nerves. The good thing is that it usually gets reabsorbed by itself with rest but sometimes needs surgical management. I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Take tablet Ibuprofen 800 mg thrice daily with meals for three to four days.
  2. Sleep on a flat, firm surface with a medium-sized pillow.
  3. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
