How to control my ear pierced infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My cartilage and helix ear piercings are infected. There are bumps, swelling, and pus. I was prescribed Lynx once a day last month, but the infection has resurfaced. I have read online that Ciprofloxacin is a more effective antibiotic for ear piercing infections.

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

I am very sorry about your medical condition, and I am glad you are paying attention to changes in your body system. I am here to take care of you.

Regarding your symptoms, I know how you feel discomfort about having a reinfection of your earlobefollowing piercing with an infected pin, but let us take a look at it professionally. You have developed a possible bacterial infection around the helix area of the earlobefrom an infected needle.

You read online about Ciprofloxacin. It is mainly used for systemic infections and rarely has much effect on surface infections. It can also cause a relapse. So, I will advise you to apply both non-pharmacological and pharmacological therapeutic options to your medical condition.

Apply warm water mixed with antiseptic liquid twice daily, and use the following tablets. Take two tablets of Co-amoxiclav (Clavulanic acid and Amoxicillin) 500 mg by mouth three times a day for two weeks and two tablets of Vitamin C 1000 IU (international unit) three times a day for two weeks.

I hope this answers your query.

Let me know if I need to assist you further.

Thank you.
