What is the management for an infected patent urachal cyst?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 19-year-old female and last night I went to the ER because my belly button was leaking pus. I was then diagnosed with a urachal cyst. Tonight, I am nauseous, dizzy when I am standing up, and my stomach hurts so bad. I am about to start crying. I feel like period cramps but I have never had them remotely this bad. I have been trying to fall asleep for the past two hours but the pain is keeping me awake, also mildly short of breath.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Sorry to hear about your suffering. Most probably the pain you feel is due to an infected patent urachal cyst. As long as there are pus and inflammation, there will be a pain. The ultimate solution is surgery. My advice is to use Augmentin (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) 1 gm twice per day for one week. Ibuprofen 600 mg as a painkiller. Consult your physician for surgery. Please provide me with a photo in order to classify your stage plus your CBC laboratory result to see how the infection is serious.
