Is it advisable to use birth control pills if I have a lung cyst?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My doctor said that I have follicle cyst in my both sides. I finished my first pack and started the second pack after a week I cut using it. Now after seven days, I am having periods with cramps. I cut using it because I could not breathe. I went to emergency and they said I have a cyst in my right lung. My question is when should I start the new pack or continue the same pack? Can I use birth control pills if I had lung cyst? How is it going to effect?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Birth control pills generally do not affect the lungs. Still, confirm with your pulmonologist to double check. Follicle cysts subside in three months after the oral pills use. You can start the pills from the first day of periods itself, and continue the packs back to back, no gaps. First 24 tablets are hormonal ones, while the last four are placebo, giving you a hormone-free interval for withdrawal bleeding.
