Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have black stools, and they are similar in consistency to brown stools, with a softer structure. I am farting more than usual, and the odor is different. I have started a new diet containing 9 grams of iron, and I am not feeling any pain. I exercise daily and am in a slight calorie deficit. I also consume one teaspoon of chyawanprash daily. What could be the reason for these symptoms? Is this normal or not?
Hello,
I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.
I understand your concern.
Black stools can be concerning as they may indicate the presence of blood in your stool, which could be due to various reasons. The change in your stool's appearance, along with increased flatulence and a different smell, might be related to the dietary changes you have made. The 0.317 ounces of iron in your diet could be a contributing factor, as high iron intake may cause dark or black stools due to the oxidation of iron in the digestive tract. However, it is also essential to consider other factors such as the new diet and exercise routine. Chyawanprash, which contains iron, herbs, and other nutrients, may also contribute to these changes. It is normal as it is due to iron supplements and chyawanprash.
I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.
Thank you.
