Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 54-year-old woman who was recently told that my bladder cancer has spread to other parts of my body. My doctors are suggesting chemotherapy and immunotherapy. I am afraid of side effects like fatigue and infections. Will I still be able to care for my family during treatment?
Are there less harsh options that still work well? I have heard about clinical trials. Are they safe for someone my age? Please explain how to manage my symptoms and maintain a good quality of life during treatment.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
First, I apologize for the delayed response. Second, I am sorry about the diagnosis of metastatic bladder cancer. I completely understand how frightening this can be, but I would like to reassure you that there is no need to panic or be overly anxious. Every day, new treatment modalities become available, improving the quality of life.
First of all, we do not necessarily need to use chemotherapy, because its side effects can be quite difficult. Chemotherapy can affect the kidneys and also hurt your psychological and emotional state. It can affect hair growth and increase the risk of infections. I prefer to manage the condition with immunotherapy, as it generally leads to better outcomes and has significantly fewer side effects compared to chemotherapy.
Immunotherapy can be quite expensive; however, you may be able to participate in clinical trials, which can provide the treatment free of charge, in addition to offering psychological and financial support.
I hope my explanation is clear and helps you in making the right decision. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask at any time. We are always here to help. Follow up after seven days.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
