Why do I notice small amounts of blood in my stools?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 31-year-old male, a non-smoker, and do not drink alcohol. Two years ago, I underwent stool samples, rectal exams, abdominal ultrasound, throat endoscopy, and colonoscopy, all of which showed no abnormalities. I had these tests done because I occasionally noticed small amounts of blood on the paper and sometimes on the stool. I was never given a specific diagnosis, but I was told that everything was normal. However, I still occasionally find blood on the paper and stool. Additionally, I have noticed small red flakes that feel like paper; when smeared, they resemble blood. I sleep well, maintain a healthy diet, and have no other symptoms such as sickness, fever, night sweats, or unintentional weight loss. I am considering uploading a photo of my stool for further evaluation. Should I be worried?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern. I have reviewed the reports you attached (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). If your investigations have returned normal results and you are still experiencing symptoms, I suggest you proceed with the following: steps:
- Stool occult test: This is a simple stool test to detect the presence of blood. Take the test for three days and share the reports with me.
- Stool analysis: A laboratory examination of a stool sample can help identify any abnormal substances or organisms present in the stool, which might be causing the red or orange flakes.
If everything is clear, there is nothing to be worried about. Kindly provide the test reports for further evaluation. The underlying issue might require more specific or specialized testing to identify. In some cases, symptoms may be related to stress, dietary changes, or medication side effects. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
