Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 41-year-old female. Today, I went to the bathroom and noticed a small, jelly-like substance that appeared to contain some blood, but I was not certain. I have had multiple bowel movements today. During my third trip to the bathroom, my stool was a normal color; however, when I wiped, I noticed blood along with a jelly-like mucus.
I occasionally experience bleeding after wiping. Just now, I felt the urge to go again, but I only passed urine. I also noticed this substance coming from my bowels. I will attach a picture for reference. I would appreciate your response.
Please guide me.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Based on your description, it seems that you may be experiencing irritation of the lower rectum, especially after having multiple bowel movements in a short period of time.
The jelly-like mucus with small streaks of bright red blood is commonly associated with minor issues such as hemorrhoids or small anal fissures. Repeated wiping and a sense of urgency can inflame the rectal lining, leading to mucus discharge. This condition is usually not serious if the blood is minimal, bright red, and occurs alongside wiping or frequent stools.
However, the change in bowel frequency and the presence of mucus mean you should monitor your symptoms closely. If the situation improves within a few days, it is likely benign. To help, increase your fluid intake, avoid straining, and consider using a stool softener if necessary.
You should seek medical evaluation if the bleeding persists or increases, becomes dark, is mixed with stool, or if you develop abdominal pain, fever, weight loss, or any ongoing changes in bowel habits. In such cases, stool tests or a sigmoidoscopy may be required.
I hope you find this information helpful.
Thank you for reaching out.
