What is the treatment for blood in the stool?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 20-year-old female, and I have been experiencing blood in my stool quite recently when going to the toilet.

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You could have a fissure in ano or, less likely, hemorrhoids. I would suggest you have a clinical examination to clear the above thoughts.

  1. Take syrup Lactihep (lactitol and benzoic acid) 20 ml at night and Freelac powder (lactitol and ispaghula) twice daily in a glass of water, betadine solution (add a little amount in a tub containing lukewarm water), and sit for 15 minutes twice daily.

  2. For bleeding, Trenaxa (tranexamic acid) 500 mg is used twice daily for three days.

  3. Stop straining while passing stool. Only try to sit in the washroom for a short time.

  4. For pain, take the tablet Lanol ER (Paracetamol) twice a day for five days.

  5. Avoid a non-vegetarian diet for three to four months.

  6. Take plenty of oral fluids, up to four liters a day.

  7. Take a high-fiber diet.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
