Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a little bit of white bone sticking out of the cartilage inside my nose. I think I may have cut my cartilage, which may have caused the bone to protrude outward.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern, and I have seen the attached picture (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

It looks like a white bump, which could be bony or soft tissue. Do you have pain associated with it? A painless swelling inside the nose could be a blocked sebaceous gland known as an epidermoid or sebaceous cyst. Sebaceous glands are glands in the skin that secrete an oily or waxy substance called sebum to lubricate and waterproof the skin and hair. Whenever the opening of the glands gets blocked due to some unknown reasons, the production of sebum continues and gets trapped, hence the ballooning of the gland.

If it is painful, then it is an infection of the hair follicle. You need to apply Neosporin (Neomycin, Bacitracin, and Polymyxin B) twice a day for a week to treat it. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent. If it is a bony spur, then it needs to be removed surgically. I would suggest you consult an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist and have it examined.

I hope this information helps you.

Thanks for using icliniq, and have a nice day.
