Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a bit concerned about my aunt. She was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer just last month. She has started chemotherapy, and they are planning for radiation too. Surgery is on the table as well, but she is in her 70s and not in the best shape, with a bunch of other health issues.
I am really worried about how she is going to handle all this. I mean, chemotherapy and radiation are tough on anyone, let alone someone her age and with her health. Will she be able to go through with all these treatments? What are her chances of pulling through this?
I know every case is different, but it just seems like a lot for her to bear. I am worried about her quality of life with all these aggressive treatments. I know the doctors are doing their best, but it is hard not to think about the worst-case scenarios.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Metastatic (spread) breast cancer management is supportive care along with chemotherapy (the use of medicines or drugs to treat cancer) and radiotherapy (a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors). Also, surgery can be indicated if it is in an early stage.
These treatments have some side effects that she may experience.
She should be prepared mentally for these outcomes, as there is no other option.
As she is alone, you may need some professional help, like a nurse who will take care of it.
I hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
