Is breast removal needed for surgery in early-stage breast cancer?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My aunt is in the initial stage of breast cancer. Is it necessary to remove one of her breasts along with the tumor, or is it possible to save the breast?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I am sorry your aunt is going through such a situation.

Breast cancer management can be less intense if treatment is done early. So I suggest you consult an oncologist for an opinion. After the removal of the breast, there are reconstruction options like an implant or flap.

Wishing your aunt a speedy recovery.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
