Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 16-year-old male. I had a lump under my nipple for about three months, but it has since disappeared. Now it feels fatty under my nipple. Additionally, both of my nipples discharge a clear liquid, but only if I squeeze them very hard.
I would appreciate any advice or guidance regarding this issue.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
It sounds like you have been experiencing some changes in the area around your nipple, which can understandably be concerning. Based on your description, there are a few potential causes for your symptoms, but it is important to approach this cautiously.
1. Gynecomastia: This is a common condition in males, especially during puberty, where the breast tissue temporarily enlarges or feels tender. The fatty feeling under your nipple could be related to this, as gynecomastia is often due to hormonal changes during puberty. It can cause a lump that may disappear or change in consistency, similar to what you have described. The clear discharge from your nipples is also occasionally seen in cases of gynecomastia, especially if it is related to hormonal fluctuations.
2. Hormonal Changes: Puberty involves significant hormonal shifts that can lead to temporary changes in the breast tissue. This could explain the lump you previously felt and the fatty tissue now. Clear nipple discharge can also occur in response to hormonal changes, although it is more commonly seen in females.
3. Fatty Tissue or Cysts: In some cases, the tissue under the nipple can feel fatty or form cysts, usually benign. These can change in size or consistency over time and are generally not a cause for concern.
While it is a positive sign that the lump has disappeared, the nipple discharge should still be monitored. Although clear discharge in males is not typically serious, it is important to stay vigilant and report any of the following to your healthcare provider:
The discharge becomes more frequent or increases in amount.
Any new lumps or changes in breast tissue appear.
You experience pain or discomfort in the area.
Since you have previously consulted a doctor who reassured you that the condition was not concerning at the time, it would be a good idea to follow up with them again if the discharge persists or if you remain worried. They may recommend monitoring the situation or conducting further tests to avoid other possibilities.
In the meantime, try to avoid squeezing your nipples to reduce irritation and stay mindful of any changes or new symptoms. It is always best to err on the side of caution and seek follow-up care with your healthcare provider.
I hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
