What causes pain in the breast in teenagers?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female, feeling pain in my right breast for two to three months. I'm feeling random pain in my breast during cycles but also after the cycle. There is no nipple discharge, and no lumps have formed, but there is pain that can sometimes become unbearable.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Pain during early teenage years is common. Nothing to be worried about if it is since the start of your breast bud. But if it is new, it can be due to a certain reason, but still, there is no need to worry if there is no discharge or no lump.

If it becomes worse before periods, then it is due to cyclical hormonal changes. My suggestion is:

  • Wear a breathable supporting bra.

  • Take the tablet Ibuprofen twice a day for five days.

  • Evening primrose oil daily for three months.

I hope this helps.

Please follow up if you have any further concerns.

Thank you.
