Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I did ECG, TMT, and blood tests. All the reports were normal, but the ECG report says MVP with mild MR. I have had anxiety, tiredness, and atypical chest pain for the past four months. I get mucus secretion in the morning. My chest X-ray and CT scan showed mild bronchiectasis and hyperinflated lungs. I am unable to exercise. My weight reduced from 116 lbs to 105 lbs. I am eating tablet Mollif, tablet Mucolite, and syrup Ascoril plus.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Hyperinflated lungs occur due to air entrapment and cause shortness of breath, chest pain, productive cough, and exertional dyspnea. In the case of bronchiectasis, patients are more prone to develop frequent respiratory tract infections. Therefore, I suggest (consult with a specialist doctor, talk with him or her and take medicines with their consent) tablet Azithromycin with your tablets.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Should I be concerned about taking tablet Azithromycin with Becosule performance and Shelcal? Please provide details about my reports.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Azithromycin belongs to the macrolides. Although some macrolides increase the risk of sudden cardiac death, Azithromycin is considered to have minimal cardiotoxicity, according to some clinical studies. Every medication has some side effects of its own. I suggest (consult with a specialist doctor, talk with him or her and take medicines with their consent) tablet Amoxicillin or tablet Augmentin (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) if you do not want tablet Azithromycin to subside respiratory tract infection which may aggravate your bronchiectasis status. You can continue capsule Becosule performance and tablet Shelcal.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

All my medications are prescribed by cardiologist. How to control bronchiectasis? How to gain weight?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have mentioned about it earlier.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Can I exercise?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Patients with bronchiectasis are more prone to developing respiratory tract infections. Respiratory tract infections can aggravate the symptoms of bronchiectasis. Patients with bronchiectasis need more energy due to increased workload of breathing, repeated inflammation, and infections. Productive mucus may cause weakness. Follow the below steps;

1. Consume foods rich in carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

2. Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables and fruits to gain weight.

3. You can walk and do some exercises regularly.

4. Do breathing exercises like blowing or inflating the balloons regularly. This exercise enhances your lung capacity.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Can I drink coffee or tea to expel the mucus?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can drink two to four cups of tea, coffee, or milk daily.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Should I be concerned about bronchiectasis?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest (consult with a specialist doctor, talk with him or her and take medicines with their consent) tablet Pulmocef (Cefuroxime) 500 mg. It is used to treat various bacterial infections like pneumonia, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and enteric fever. In bronchiectasis, the bronchial tubes of your lungs can become permanently widened, damaged, and thickened. So it can become severe in the long term. If left untreated, it causes respiratory or cardiac failure. According to some clinical studies, bronchiectasis can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, and some patients may die of heart disease.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Can I take other prescribed medications? Will the disease progress in the future?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

1) I suggest (consult with a specialist doctor, talk with him or her and take medicines with their consent) tablet Pulmocef (Cefuroxime) 500 mg twice daily for 14 days.

2) I suggest tablet Montelukast for suppressing cough.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Can I take other medications?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can take other medications. Bronchiectasis is a progressive disease that may worsen gradually over time. So, treatment should be started early to prevent infections, slow damage, and make it easier to control your symptoms. As I have already mentioned that bronchiectasis is considered mild, where there is less or scanty production of mucus. When symptoms are well controlled, that particular period will be considered a very slowly progressive stage. I suggest (consult with a specialist doctor, talk with him or her and take medicines with their consent) tablet Singulair (Montelukast) 10 mg once daily at night and tablet Doxolin (Doxofylline) 400 mg once daily after the meal at night.
