Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Can you please explain the significance of the following findings for the lungs?

  1. Hazy right midlung opacity.

  2. Streaky left basilar opacities.

  3. Possible trace left pleural effusion.

I would like to tell you that I suffered from pneumonia once six years ago and once five years ago. I am taking tablet Pradaxa, tablet Cardizem, tablet Feinaicide, and tablet Atorvastatin. I had taken antibiotics for the same complaint in the past.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and I can understand your concern.I have gone through the X-ray report you mentioned. (Attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

  1. Hazy right midlung opacities - This means right middle lobe inflammation.

  2. Streaky basilar opacity - query fibrotic scars, and old lesions due to previous pneumonia.

  3. Pleural effusion - fluid in the pleural cavity (between pleural layers - lungs are surrounded by two layers, pleural layers. Fluid in this layer is known as pleural effusion).

May I know your symptoms? Do you have any fever or cough? Please reply with the answers to the above-asked questions so that I can guide you better. Wish you good health.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have no fever although I am coughing quite a lot. Mostly dry cough. Sometimes I cough up clear phlegm or some light green phlegm not much though.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Okay. This might be bronchitis. I have a few post-infectious bronchitis queries. Please answer the following questions:

  1. Any smoking habits?

  2. Since how long have you been coughing post-pneumonia?

  3. Do you have any breathing difficulty?

  4. Do you have any PFT (pulmonary function test) done?

  5. Have you done any CT (computed tomography) thorax?

I may need answers to the above-asked questions so that I can guide you better.

I hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
