Should one be concerned about the ear bruise in a kid?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter had a fall and hit her ear on a nightstand and has a bruise on her concha. I just want to make sure a bruise can occur in that location from a fall and that there is nothing else we should question.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. As per the limited information provided and looking at the picture, it is possible to get a bruise over the ear pinna but it is unusual as it is also there on the inner side as well and I can see some reddish spots below the ear over the neck.

I suggest you look for such bruises anywhere on the other areas including the head. If it is only at this site and she has not had any bleeding problems in the past, then no need to worry, you can give Paracetamol for pain if needed. If you see reddish marks or bruises over other areas also, then it needs a more detailed history as well as some tests. In that case, you can connect with me, I will discuss the issue in more detail and advise you accordingly.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
