Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I recently underwent an endoscopy, which found nothing abnormal than a little hiatus hernia. Before the endoscopy, I took Pantoprazole 40 mg twice a day for four days. Can a small amount of PPIprovide a normal negative result? Or would it not have had enough time to begin treating any esophageal irritation ulcers? I am getting an endoscopy because I constantly urinate after drinking water or eating, and I am unsure if my hiatus hernia is to blame. I burp when I drink water, eat, or start working out. Over the past eight months, this has become worse. Because I am embarrassed by it, it is hurting my ability to socialize and is making me anxious. My burps also smell bad. I have been receiving treatment for small-intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) for the past two years using herbal antimicrobials, antibiotics, and an elemental diet. Although I used to take a tablet of Naproxen daily for rheumatoid arthritis and vitamin supplements for hormone replacement therapy, I now only use it twice a week.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As a consequence of my careful examination of your case history, I can state that your usage of tablet.Pantoprazole (proton pump inhibitor) for a short period has nothing to do with a routine endoscopy, as it takes a few weeks for acid-suppressing medication to alleviate gastritis and stomach erosions. A little hiatal hernia is a fairly frequent endoscopic finding, and certain lifestyle changes as well as consistent usage of tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg once a day for two to four weeks at least would be helpful. Burps may occur as a result of stomach discomfort or even worry, as you may have previously seen. Lifestyle changes, such as eating small and frequent meals, delaying sitting or lying down after meals, eating dinner three hours before bedtime, avoiding dining out frequently, and having high-carbohydrate meals. You are taking painkillers for your R.A (rheumatoid arthritis), these medications are known to irritate the stomach. Take them after meals only. Antacid syrup, such as Gaviscon 10 ml (antacid) after each meal, may also help with your discomfort. I would advise TSk for minor gut bacterial overgrowth.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you very much. I am not sure why I am burping so much.t is not typical for me, and I suspect something is causing it. Is there any other explanation for why I might suddenly get this condition?

Answered by Dr. Ghulam Fareed

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

1) I suggest you have the H. pylori (Helicobacter pylori) bacterial infection tested for; this is the only way to determine if you have gastritis.

2) Another option, which I have discussed concerning your R.A. (rheumatoid arthritis), is drug-induced gastroenteritis.

3) Are there recent pressures in your life? Have you made any changes in lifestyle and environment since stress raises the amount of stomach acid produced, which can lead to additional symptoms like bloating, burping, and hiccups.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
