Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I had my baby through C-section five months ago, but the scar and the surrounding area still hurt if something touches it. Is it normal?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
It is not uncommon to experience tenderness or sensitivity around a C-section scar for several months after delivery, especially since you have had a previous C-section (cesarean) and placenta previa. However, five months after the surgery, the pain and sensitivity should usually be mild and progressively improving. Here are some possible reasons why the area might still be sensitive:
1. Nerve damage or regeneration: During a C-section, nerves are cut and take time to heal. Some women experience numbness, tingling, or discomfort around the scar as the nerves regenerate.
2. Scar tissue (adhesions): Internal scar tissue can form around the surgical site, leading to discomfort or a pulling sensation when touched or during movement.
3. Infection or inflammation: While less likely, persistent pain could indicate an infection or inflammation around the scar, especially if the area is red, swollen, or feels warm.
4. Delayed healing: Healing can take longer if there is more tissue trauma, such as in cases of emergency C-sections or if you have had multiple surgeries.
It is a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider if:
The pain is severe or worsening.
There is swelling, redness, or warmth around the scar.
There is discharge from the incision.
They may want to evaluate the scar and check for any complications like adhesions or infections.
I hope this information helps you.
Revert in case of queries.
Regards.
