What is the treatment duration for cervical sprain injury?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had several car accidents, ranging from being rear-ended to two accidents where the car was totaled. My X-rays showed that I had a cervical sprain and minor disc narrowing of the C5-6 vertebrae. I had to get treatment for back pain issues following car accident.

  1. Would I need more treatment than a normal person who has been through two car accidents?
  2. Does my X-ray result show the duration of treatment that I would require?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Treatment is based on the severity of the injury and not the severity of the accident or the number of accidents. Treatment can be increased based on clinical findings. X-rays cannot exactly give the duration of treatment required as it is always based on clinical examination.

The treating doctor is the final authority to decide on treatment based on clinical evaluation and examination. You can get an MRI scan done if you need to prove the exact findings or if you feel the clinical findings do not match the X-rays.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
