How often is a stress echocardiogram done in a hypertensive patient?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 27-year-old male with hypertension and cholesterol (taking Olmesartan 20nmg and Rosuvastatin 10nmg). I was just wondering how often I need to get a stress echocardiogram to monitor my heart. I had a normal stress echocardiogram three years ago, a normal auscultation one year ago, and a normal resting ECG six months ago.

My parents are healthy and have had zero cardiac events. However, my dad has a 50 % blockage in one branch of his LAD, but he is 60 years old. One of my grandparents had cardiac events. My grandfather had pulmonary hypertension and died at 73.

Please help me.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

You need not get a stress echocardiogram done unless you are suffering from increasing fatigue or chest discomfort of new onset. As of now, you can continue with your present medications.

I hope this information helps you.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

The report (attachments removed to protect the patients identity) shows mild hepatic steatosis. Incorporate more exercise and get more vegetables and less fried food into your diet.

I hope this information helps you.

Thank you.
