Retinal vein occlusion (RVO) is a typical cause of vision loss in aged individuals, retinal vascular diseases, and diabetic retinopathy. There are two types, categorized according to the location of occlusion: in central RVO (CRVO), the occlusion is at or proximal to the lamina cribrosa of the optic nerve. The pathophysiology includes Virchow’s triad for thrombogenesis, involving vessel damage, stasis and hypercoagulability.
