Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I went through a cesarean last month, and the doctor informed me bleeding lasts up to 7 to 9 days as they cleared most of it. It has been 25 days, and I am still bleeding. I am anemic, and I had an 8.6 g/dL hemoglobin level when I went through a cesarean. I am having too much back pain and leg pain. Sometimes, I have severe lower abdomen pain, and sometimes, the cesarean cut swells, and I am bleeding brown. Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concerns.

After a cesarean section, it is normal to experience some bleeding, known as lochia, for several weeks. However, if the bleeding persists for longer than expected or if you are experiencing other symptoms like severe pain, swelling, or changes in bleeding color, it is essential to reach out to your healthcare provider for evaluation. Excessive bleeding, especially if accompanied by anemia and severe pain, may require medical attention. Your healthcare provider can assess your condition, perform any necessary tests, and determine the appropriate course of action. In the meantime, you can try to manage your symptoms by:

1. Resting and avoiding strenuous activities.

2. Apply a heating pad or warm compress to your back or abdomen for pain relief.

3. Taking over-the-counter pain relievers, if approved by your healthcare provider.

4. Monitoring your bleeding and any changes in color, consistency, or odor.

5. Maintaining good nutrition and staying hydrated to support your recovery and manage anemia.

I hope the information provided to you helps you.

Take care.
