What could be causing persistent left-side chest pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 21-year-old male and have been experiencing chest pain on the left side for the last four months. The issue started four months ago when I felt a heaviness in my chest after waking up, which initially improved with some stretching.

Three months ago, after stretching my chest more forcefully, I began to feel pain during movements related to the chest, such as turning to look back over my left shoulder, bending forward and then standing up straight, lying on my right side, and doing exercises that involve the left chest. There is no pain when I cough or sneeze. This month, I visited a physician who suggested it might be a muscle pull and prescribed medications, including Sompraz L, Probiprime, Banidor calcium tablets, Instaraft solution, Olmed Ome Q10 soft gel capsules for 10 days, and Nucoxia MR for five days.

Sometimes, I feel relief, but it is inconsistent. After five days, I revisited the same physician who replaced Nucoxia MR with Myoril 4 mg capsules, Enzoflam tablets, and DFO GEL.

Now, my pain is not as sharp as before. I want to know what this problem could be and whether I am receiving appropriate treatment. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Chest pain can have multiple causes associated with it, including issues related to the lungs, heart, abdomen, muscles, and bones.

Please answer the following questions:

  • Is your chest pain associated with prolonged coughing or breathing problems?
  • Do you frequently experience heartburn (acidity)?
  • Are there any relieving factors?
  • Are there any aggravating factors?

To reach a diagnosis, you should undergo the following investigations: a chest radiograph and an ECG (electrocardiogram). These tests will help identify or rule out various causes.

Please follow up with the answers to the above questions and the results of the advised investigations so that I can make an appropriate diagnosis and provide the correct treatment options.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please, let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
