Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My kid is five years old. As she grows old, she avoids eating fruits and vegetables. She hesitates to eat it. How to make it a habit for my kid to eat fruits and vegetables? How can I incorporate this habit in her? As a parent, I am very much worried about her health without fruits and vegetables. How to give my kid a healthy diet with her favorite fruits and vegetables? Please tell me some ways to deal with this issue.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Following are some suggestions:
1. Cut fruits and vegetables into fun shapes using cookie cutters. Blend fruits and vegetables into smoothies or juices. You can mix them with yogurt or milk to make them more appealing. Let your child help choose the ingredients and participate in making them.
2. Serve raw vegetables with dips like hummus, yogurt, or peanut butter. Make homemade popsicles using pureed fruits and vegetables mixed with a little juice or yogurt.
3. Take your child shopping and let them choose fruits and vegetables they find interesting. This can make them more excited about eating what they selected.
4. Involve your child in the cooking process. Let them wash, peel, and help prepare fruits and vegetables. Children are more likely to eat what they have helped make.
5. If possible, grow some fruits and vegetables at home. Children often enjoy eating what they have grown themselves.
6. Offer fruits and vegetables at every meal and snack. Consistency helps normalize these foods as part of their diet.
7. Start with small portions. Eat fruits and vegetables yourself. Children are more likely to eat these foods if they see their parents enjoying them.
8. Have family meals where everyone eats the same healthy foods. Make mealtime a pleasant and positive experience.
9. Keep cut-up fruits and vegetables available for easy snacking. Place them where your child can see and reach them easily.
10. Combine fruits and vegetables with foods your child already loves. For example, add fruit to cereal or yogurt and mix vegetables into macaroni and cheese or pizza.
11. Make healthier versions of your child's favorite foods, like vegetable-based muffins or pancakes.
12. Allow them to enjoy foods like fruit smoothies, veggie muffins, homemade pizza, and veggie stir-fry.
I hope this information helps you.
