Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been suffering from a streptococcal infection in my left sinus for five months as a result of a dental abscess. I have had a total of 14 courses of antibiotics, which have now stopped working. I am really concerned, as I now have the infection in the other sinus, and I am feeling very unwell. My ENT consultant wants a CT scan, but I am suffering terribly.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
I will definitely help you. May I know your age? My heart goes out to you. 14 rounds of antibiotics with no relief, spreading infection, and feeling "rotten" is beyond exhausting. You deserve answers and real solutions. Let us tackle this step by step.
1. Demand your CT (computed tomography) scan as soon as possible: Call the ENT (ear, nose, and throat) department daily and insist on scan scheduling. Ask your primary doctor to escalate this; persistent infections can lead to serious complications (e.g., bone involvement, abscesses). If still blocked, visit an ER (emergency room) or urgent care; they can order the scan if you explain the history.
2. Stop antibiotics temporarily: Repeated courses have likely disrupted your microbiome, risking resistance or fungal overgrowth (Clostridium difficile, Candida).
3. Address the dental source: See a dentist or oral surgeon as soon as possible; residual abscess or infected tooth roots may be fueling this.
I know it feels hopeless, but we will find the source. Keep a symptom diary (fever, pain location, nasal discharge color) and bring it to every appointment. If you develop a severe headache, vision changes, or neck stiffness, go to the ER (emergency room) immediately.
The probable causes can be:
Osteomyelitis (bone infection from a dental abscess).
Fungal sinusitis (antibiotics can worsen this).
Abscesses or anatomical blockages (e.g., deviated septum, polyps).
Preventive measures are as follows:
Probiotics (Saccharomyces boulardii) to repair gut health.
Steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil (reduces congestion).
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
