Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I would be undergoing a circumcision within the next three months, and little worried as the tip of my penis is very sensitive. It hurts a lot, not just when touched but also when it is exposed. Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. and thank you for choosing us as your provider for medical care.

I would like to inform you that after undergoing circumcision, it is common for the penile head or glans to be a little sensitive. This is not pain as such, and just over-sensitivity as it has not been exposed to the environment. This usually settles down within a couple of weeks and using local anesthetic spray after surgery that markedly reduces the sensitivity issues. I advise you to make sure of wearing only loose-fitting pants and trousers for a couple of weeks after the procedure.

Please help me with the following details:

  1. What is the reason for undergoing circumcision? Do you have trouble retracting your foreskin or does the skin hurt when you have an erection?
  2. Do you have any other medical issues such as diabetes or hypertension?
  3. Please share some photos (both in the erect and flaccid state) so that I can have a better idea.

I hope this will help ypu.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi Yes I’m having a circumcision because my foreskin is too tight. It can be brought all the way back when flaccid (still painful) but cannot be pulled back when erect. Due to this it has been difficult to wash my penis properly, which may be what has caused it to hurt so much when touched. For some reason it won’t let me attach files. I take the photo and then it disappears, however there are red patches on the tip of my penis

That’s alright. If it’s causing you the issues you have described, it needs to be removed. Like I said, it’ll take 2-3 weeks for your penile head to get used to the new environment, but it does settle down. Wear loose fitting pants and trousers. Ask for a local anaesthetic spray (lignocaine) from your surgeon after the procedure, or you can buy it over the counter as well if it is available. Apply it 3 times a day and the sensitivity will reduce. Hope this puts your mind at rest. Please don’t worry, the sensitivity settles down eventually

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
