How to get rid of inflamed pores on my cheeks?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have minor pimples or inflamed pores on my cheeks. I have both open and closed comedones, along with some reddish bumps, which are located only on my cheeks.

Please guide.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am really sorry to hear what you are going through, and I completely understand your situation.

From your history and the attached picture (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), I can see that you have active acne along with comedones.

I will provide you with a dermatologist treatment plan that will help resolve your comedones while controlling your acne:

  1. Start by using a non-comedogenic moisturizer during the day.

  2. Apply sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 50.

  3. At night, use your moisturizer and then apply a pea-sized amount of Adapalene 0.1 % cream over your entire face, not just on the acne spots.

  4. In the afternoon, use Clindamycin 1 % gel directly on the pimples.

  5. To accelerate your recovery, you should start taking Doxycycline 100 mg per day for at least 30 days in conjunction with these topical medications.

Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medicines with their consent. This is the only proven antibiotic for acne. If you are considering other options like oral retinoids, I will need some laboratory reports and additional history from you.

With this regimen, you should begin to see clearer skin in six to eight weeks. Please schedule a follow-up appointment in 15 to 20 days.

I hope this explanation clarifies the situation.

Thank you.
