This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a female, 18 years old, and have had no skincare yet. I have closed comedones on my face, and they are everywhere. I also have many mini bumps just below my lips. I want to have glass skin.

Can you help me create a skincare routine?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern.

I completely understand how frustrating the comedons can be. You are going through teenage acne. Teenage acne is a very common skin condition caused by hormonal changes during puberty, which increase oil production and block pores, leading to pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads.

Although it can be frustrating, acne is treatable and improves with time with a proper regimen and lifestyle changes.

I am going to give you a step-by-step, friendly skincare routine to manage your closed comedones.

  • Use a mild, non-stripping face wash to keep your skin calm and avoid further irritation. Use twice a day, only in the morning and before going to bed.

  • Sunscreen is the most important step to further avoid PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). Daily SPF (sun protection factor) is the most important thing that prevents PIH from getting darker and helps it fade faster. Reapply every two to three hours if you are in the sun.

  • Targeted PIH treatments, for this, I am going to give you two ingredients, one in the morning and one at night. In the morning, use Clindagel on acne or bumps only after moisturizer and before sunblock to manage your active acne

  • In the evening, use a pea-sized amount of an Adapalene gel on the entire face, followed by a moisturizer to avoid purging. This will help to manage your closed comedones over time and texture gradually. Start with alternate nights for two weeks and then every night for an additional two weeks.

  • Follow this regimen for four to six weeks to get clear skin. Closed comedons take a little time but gradually clear.

  • For the bumps under the lips, can you please share a close picture of them so that I can tell and guide if they are comedones, acne, warts, or milia. So that I can guide you on whether you need separate treatment for it or it will be managed with the adapalene only as advised earlier.

  • Avoid harsh scrubs or frequent picking; use non-comedogenic makeup products; and follow a balanced diet.

I hope it helped with your query. Feel free to contact me if you want further guidance.

Thank you.
