This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have closed comedones (skin-colored, small bumps that occur on the forehead and chin with acne) on my left cheek. I tried Clindamycin phosphate gel USP but no result.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I am very sorry about your medical condition and I am glad that you are paying attention to changes in your body system. But do not worry. I am here to take care of you.

Comedones, also known as whiteheads are a type of acne that forms when a skin pore is clogged with oily dead skin with debris, which I see has become resistant to your Clindamycin (antibiotic) treatment. However, the comedone's acne is not caused by bacteria, so Clindamycin may not work.

I advise you to do the following:

  1. Apply topical 2 % Resorcinol daily or topical 0.1 % Tretinoin twice daily.

  2. 20 % Azelaic acid daily or 5 % Dapsone gel daily for one month.

Kindly consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
