Why could one face trouble sleeping and be upset with noise?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Loud noises bother me. If I get upset, my routine changes and I find it difficult to sleep. I have trouble understanding my boss and have to keep asking what he wants. I do not like people touching or looking at me. I dread meeting new people. I dislike it when my wife does not drive the same way I do. Smells also bother me, especially the chemical smells. I have had these problems since I was a little boy. It was manageable before. But now it has become more difficult. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for taking help from a psychiatrist. I think that you have an introverted personality (cluster C personality, a mental health condition that causes fearfulness, insecurity, or perfectionism). It makes it difficult to communicate with new people. You may like to live alone at home, rather than go to a party. You may like your own time, rather than spending time with friends or social gatherings. You may have a small friend circle or limited friends, but they all are close to you. Because of your introverted nature, you may lack confidence and suffer from an inferiority complex (an unrealistic feeling of inadequacy). You are scared when someone criticizes you. You must accept yourself, and work on how to improve yourself. You should try to follow the health guidelines below to build your confidence.

1. You should exercise 30 to 45 minutes daily, like at least going for a walk.

2. You should do meditation for 20 minutes daily. Just sit in one comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing. Do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts. Just let it be.

3. You should eat healthy home-cooked foods and avoid junk food.

4. You should spend time doing creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills, languages, or musical instruments.

5. You should get enough sleep, at least seven to eight hours, daily.

6. You must avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any other substance abuse.

Live your life, do not just spend it. Be bold and confident.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you want more help.

Thank you.
