What is the treatment of persistent cold?

Hi doctor,

I am a 65-year-old female. I had a cold and took Amoxicillin seven days ago. I still have a cold. My complete blood count is normal except for the mean platelet volume.

I understand your concern.

If you have taken Amoxicillin for seven days, then I suggest you not take it anymore. For the common cold, I would like to start different medications now. Anti-allergic medications will be a better option here. And I suggest you take a few precautions, like drinking only lukewarm water. You can take steam inhalation as well. Avoid cold drinks. Kindly take the following:

Tablet Levocetirizine 10 mg once before sleeping.
Tablet Paracetamol 500 mg twice a day after meal
Take these medications for three days, and everything will be fine.
Do you have redness at the back of your mouth?
Are there any difficulties in swallowing?
What dosage of Amoxicillin did you take? And how many times a day?
Please let me know so I can prescribe you medicine accordingly.
