Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I read your query, and I understand your concern.

There are some effective home remedies you can follow to manage your common cold symptoms:

  1. Stay hydrated.

  2. Drink ginger and honey with lemon tea.

  3. Steam inhalation with some herbs, mint leaves, or eucalyptus oil.

  4. Maintain hand hygiene like regular handwashing.

  5. Consuming garlic may help boost your immunity

  6. Gargle with warm salt water to soothe a sore throat.

As for the over-the-counter medications:

  1. You may take a tablet of Cetirizine (antihistamine) 10 mg at night for running nose and sneezing or coughing.

  2. For fever or headache, you may take a tablet of Paracetamol 650 mg every four hours in a day.

  3. Antibiotics are not recommended unless there is evidence of thick yellow or green sputum or breathing difficulty, continuous severe cough suggesting a lung infection.

Lifestyle adjustments for the common cold:

  1. Do not spit the sputum or phlegm. Swallowing does not cause any damage or issue to one's health. Spitting in public places often spreads to other people.

  2. Wear a mask if the cough is too severe.

  3. Take a lot of rest, and drink lots of fluids.

  4. Cough into one's inner aspect of the elbow, not the hand, or into a nearby person.

  5. Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Take adequate protein and nuts during winter.

For preventive measures, maintain a safe distance in public places, wash your hands frequently, avoid close contact with sick individuals, maintain a healthy lifestyle, get good quality sleep, exercise regularly, decrease or avoid stress, and stay hydrated.

I hope this helps.

Please let me know if can assst you further.

Thank you.
