Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a friend who has had a rare eye condition for a long time. His eyesight is getting weaker. He is wondering whether you would recommend surgery for this condition, even if in a different country. I have attached the eye scans. Would you please give me your opinion?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern. I have viewed all reports that you have uploaded (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). The patient has a congenital disorder known as cone-rod dystrophy, which worsens with age. For now, no surgery is available to cure this. I can only suggest supplemental measures to delay the deterioration of vision.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor.

Thanks for responding.

May I know what vitamins or supplements can help stop the deterioration or delay it? Please do suggest about this.

Regards.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest taking an AREDS2 formulation (Zinc, Lutein, Zeaxanthin, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C). These are antioxidants that prevent deterioration of the retinal pigment epithelium. Along with this, avoid smoking tobacco. Include, carrots and raw tomatoes in your diet. Green leafy vegetables are highly recommended.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
