Can a fall trauma cause digestive issues and weakness?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have severe digestive issues, food does not digest properly, and I often experience constipation lasting up to five days. My digestive system feels very weak, and my body is overall frail. I have also noticed breakouts on my face. This all started after an accident where I fell from a high altitude, which left me immobile for about a year. What could be causing these issues, and how can I improve my digestion and overall health?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Based on your history and colonoscopy results, your symptoms could be linked to past trauma from the fall, possibly causing spinal shock. However, since you are now mobile and have no other neurological abnormalities, spinal trauma is unlikely to be the cause. To improve digestion and relieve constipation, I recommend Pantoprazole (Protonix) 40mg (taken half an hour before breakfast for two to four weeks) and Domperidone (Motilium) 10mg (before breakfast and dinner for 2 weeks) to enhance appetite. For constipation, Syrup Laxoberon (Sodium Picosulfate) of five to ten milliliters can be adjusted based on your needs to regulate bowel movements. Additionally, lifestyle modifications like increased water intake, a high-fiber diet (including psyllium husk), and stress management will further support digestive health.

I hope this helps.

Let me know if you have any other concerns.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Syrup Laxoberon is not available in my place. The pharmacist told me that this is a laxative. They told me to take probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria. They do not have syrup. They have tablets. What should I do?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I agree with probiotics, this is always beneficial for the gut. Even you can consider yogurt as well, it is a natural source of probiotics. If a laxative is not available you can increase your water intake and fiber intake. You can take Isabgol husk one to two times as needed with a glass of water. In case of persistent constipation, then you should consider Laxoberon (Sodium Picosulfate) tablets if possible.

Thank you.
