Are burning and edema in the eyelid due to corneal erosion?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had a tree branch trauma to the eye (cornea) for a year. I have recurrent complaints like burning, stinking, and lid edema. I would like to learn the treatment options for recurrent corneal erosion. I took Moxifloxacin, Xailin Night, and Systane Hydration. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your case.

This needs proper follow-up by an ophthalmologist. And nowadays, we have got advanced surgical procedures for it. Right now, I can suggest symptomatic medications:

1. Lubricant, natural tear eye drops, or lubricating ointment at bedtime have a soothing effect: Use Lacrigel ocular lubricant (Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose) or Systane nighttime (white petroleum and mineral oil).

2. Take oral NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), like Ibuprofen for pain.

3. Use antibiotic-containing ointment, such as Erythromycin, if needed with discharge.

4. Use bandage soft contact lens or extended-wear bandage soft contact lens (BCL). Take the further opinion of an ophthalmologist for this.

Please take care of eye hygiene. Do not touch your eyes with bare hands. Instead, use a tissue or napkin.

I hope this will be of quiet help before you go for an ophthalmologist.

Regards.
