Can I take a booster after 45 days of COVID infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got COVID-19 45 days back and recovered, and I am due to take a booster dose this week. Shall I take the booster dose or wait for a couple of months, as my body might be immune for some time? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and am sorry you caught a covid-19 infection. The recommended guidelines state that anyone with a breakthrough infection and those vaccinated with both doses but still infected with Covid 19 - should wait for three months before taking the booster shot. You mentioned that you had COVID-19 infection 45 days back and are now entirely recovered, so according to guidelines, you should wait for another 45 days to receive the preventive dose. Also, please enquire about your query in the local health hospital where you are about to receive a preventative dose this week. Hope you have completely recovered now and there are no residual symptoms present.

Hope you find my reply helpful.

Take care.

Thanks.
