Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was outside yesterday but was not wearing a mask. A random person I do not know rode by on a bicycle within a couple of feet of me and blew smoke from a cigarette, it got in my face and I inhaled it. I have no idea if they are COVID-19 positive, but how concerned should I be? Should I self-quarantine myself? Should I be tested?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you were outside and you had been exposed to some people. And your query is whether you need to keep yourself self-quarantined or not and whether should you be tested for COVID-19 or not.

Well, it is difficult to tell. You have not mentioned here the affected rate of COVID-19 in that specific place. Again you also have not mentioned a specific distance from those people who had passed you by bicycle with smoking. It is said that 6 feet distance should be kept from one person to another person. Again it is also said that exposure time should be at least 15 minutes for being contaminated or affected by a COVID-19-positive patient. Again many people around the world are affected by COVID-19 without any specific clinical symptoms and COVID-19-positive patients are not aware of that.

As you did not know about the person whether they were COVID-19 positive or not, so you should not be worried about that. But according to the present situation, it will be wise for you to undergo antigen or antibody test or rt PCR test for COVID-19 and keep yourself quarantined until your result will reveal negative.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
