Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have had a low-grade fever for the past few months. I tested for CMV to see if it was active, and I got a borderline result. The fever is affecting my performance everywhere.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and can understand your concern.
A borderline result for CMV (cytomegalovirus) can be challenging to interpret. It might indicate a recent infection, a reactivation of a past infection, or a false-positive result. Further testing or retesting after a few weeks might be necessary for clarification. A fever lasting for two months is considered chronic and warrants medical attention. It can be caused by various conditions, including infections and autoimmune disorders.
Additional tests might be required, including a complete blood count (CBC), a comprehensive metabolic panel, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP), thyroid function tests, further viral tests, and autoimmune disorder screening. It is important to stay hydrated, get adequate rest, monitor your temperature regularly, and use over-the-counter medicines. To improve your condition, further medical evaluation is required to address the underlying cause.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
