Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 9-year-old nephew does not show any interest in his studies. During the pandemic, he was in his first grade and attended his classes online. But when he joined the school in the third grade, he lost interest in his studies, and now he has become very adamant and gets angry easily. His parents also fight with each other, often mostly because of his studies. He was a very intelligent boy once, but now he does not show interest and hates reading and memorizing books. However, he enjoys math and learns it by himself. What can be done to solve this problem and make him regain interest and enjoy his studies?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
It sounds like your nephew may be experiencing some challenges adjusting to in-person learning after the online format during the pandemic. Here are a few suggestions:
1) Understanding: Try to understand what might be causing his lack of interest and frustration. Is he struggling with certain subjects? Is he feeling overwhelmed by the transition to in-person learning?
2) Support: Offer him support and encouragement. Let him know that it is okay to find certain subjects difficult and that you are there to help him.
3) Positive Reinforcement: Praise his efforts and progress, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement can help boost his confidence and motivation.
4) Interest-based Learning: Since he enjoys math, try incorporating math into other subjects to make them more engaging. For example, you can use math problems related to history or science.
5) Interactive Learning: Explore interactive learning resources and activities that cater to his interests. Many educational games, applications, and websites make learning fun and engaging.
6) Break Tasks into Smaller Steps: If he is struggling with reading and memorization, break down tasks into smaller, manageable steps. Provide plenty of breaks and encourage him to take his time.
7) Open Communication: Encourage open communication between him and his parents. They need to work together and support him during this time.
8) Seek Professional Help if Needed: If his struggles persist, consider seeking help from a teacher, counselor, or educational psychologist who can provide additional support and guidance.
Remember, every child learns differently, and it may take some time to find what works best for him. Patience, understanding, and consistent support are key.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
