Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My period is delayed, and I experienced spotting twice this month, once during my ovulation and again five days before my expected period. My last period lasted for five days, during which I also had protected sex. On the 3rd day of my period, I religiously drank 8.4 pints of sea salt water, and I noticed spotting after 15 days. I continued drinking it again after 15 days and stopped until I had my second spotting. My period was supposed to come last week, but I still have not gotten it. I am becoming paranoid. Yesterday, I had protected sex, but I am afraid there may have been a leakage at the entrance of the condom. Am I going to get pregnant during my delayed days? I am drinking ginger lemon tea and taking Iron (Sangobion supplements) because I think I have an iron deficiency. Could it be possible that drinking sea salt water is the reason for my delayed period of five days?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Drinking sea salt water for bowel cleansing should not directly impact your menstrual cycle or cause a delayed period. However, extreme changes in diet or hydration levels can sometimes affect hormone balance, which may indirectly impact your menstrual cycle. Spotting during ovulation is relatively common for some individuals and may not necessarily be a cause for concern. Additionally, stress, hormonal fluctuations, changes in weight, medication, and other factors can contribute to changes in your menstrual cycle. Regarding your concerns about pregnancy, it is important to remember that the only way to definitively determine if you are pregnant is through a pregnancy test. While protected sex reduces the risk of pregnancy, there is still a small chance of pregnancy if there was a condom leakage or if it was not used correctly.

Thanks and regards.
