Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had engaged in protected intercourse with my boyfriend and for precaution, I took an emergency contraceptive pill. But now it has been nearly a month and my periods have still not arrived. I did a home pregnancy test and blood test after three weeks of missed periods and it showed negative. I am now taking Norethisterone acetate 15 mg suggested by my gynecologist but I am not sure whether my periods will come or not. Kindly suggest me what should I do.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern. You will get your periods soon after taking the medication you mentioned. The delay in periods can be due to hormonal imbalance, anemia, thyroid problems, or infections such as urinary tract infection or pelvic floor response. I suggest you undergo a complete evaluation and take the following tests:
These tests will help diagnose the problem. You may require antibiotics, analgesics, and antihistamines, along with vaginal douching using an antiseptic solution. Additionally, the doctor may also prescribe you vaginal pessary or ointment for a five-day period. I suggest you consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
