I am 30. Why am I having breast pain and a delayed period?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 30 years old, 5 feet tall. My last period was on the 25th of last month, and this month it is two days late. And my nipples are sore, I have also had back pain, and I am feeling some stomach cramps.
What could be the problem?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Since your last period was on the 25th of last month and it is now delayed by two days, the most common possibility is early pregnancy, especially because you are also experiencing breast and nipple tenderness, back pain, and mild cramps. These can be early pregnancy signs.
However, the same symptoms can also occur before a period due to hormonal changes (premenstrual syndrome). At this stage, the best step is to do a urine pregnancy test at home. Most tests can detect pregnancy as soon as a period is missed.
If the test is negative and your period still does not start, repeat the test in three to five days for accuracy. If it is positive, follow up with your doctor for confirmation with blood tests and an early ultrasound.
If the test remains negative and your periods continue to be irregular, other causes like stress, thyroid issues, polycystic ovarian changes, or hormonal imbalance may need to be evaluated.
For now, do not worry, a short delay of two to three days is common, and your symptoms are not unusual. Taking a pregnancy test will give you a clear answer.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
