Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My periods were supposed to start between these days. Perhaps I will get them today. However, the chances were most probably for yesterday and the days before. Unfortunately, I did not. I checked with the strip, and the home pregnancy test is negative. Please provide your opinion.

Thank you.

Hello,

I am here to help you with your health queries.

I can understand your concern. May I ask about the length of the delay in your period? Could you please let me know if you are taking oral contraceptive pills or if you have used emergency contraceptives? These medications are known to alter the menstrual cycle. Pregnancy typically occurs when a woman engages in vaginal penetrative sex during her ovulation period, which is usually around day 14 if the woman has a 28-day cycle, although it may vary depending on the woman's cycle length. Sperm can survive for up to 72 hours, so if a woman has sex 72 hours before her ovulation, there is still a chance of pregnancy.

Could you please provide information about the length of your menstrual cycle, meaning from the first day of menstrual bleeding until the next menstrual bleeding the following month? Also, if you had sex, at what point during your menstrual cycle did it occur, and did your partner ejaculate in your vagina? All these factors can affect the chances of becoming pregnant. A urine pregnancy test is very sensitive in detecting pregnancy if present, as it can identify minor elevations of beta-HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), a hormone usually elevated in pregnancy. Your negative pregnancy test is a strong indication that you are not pregnant.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

Thank you.
