Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had my periods 44 days back and then I took an I-pill nine days after that within an hour of intercourse. I got bleeding six days after taking the I-pill which lasted for five days and till now I did not get my periods.

What could be the reason? Please help me.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

The most common cause of a missed menstrual period is conception. There is sometimes a loss of blood via the vagina when the fertilized ovum is implanted into the lining of the uterus. This is known as implantation bleeding.

The best way to determine if a pregnancy has occurred is to carry out a urine or blood pregnancy test which is quite sensitive in detecting early pregnancies.

Also, no method of contraception is 100 percent effective so even with a contraceptive medication in place conception is possible. The most accessible way to confirm or rule out a conception is to carry out a urine pregnancy test of which kits can readily be purchased over the counter.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
