What could be the reason for delayed periods despite having a negative pregnancy test and protected sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I and my girlfriend had protective sex. We used protection so did not give her an Ipill. After that, she did not get her period and then she got 4 pregnancy tests and which came out negative. She even took medications but did not get her periods yet. What could be the reason?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

The delay may be due to hormone imbalance or anemia or infection of either the urinary tract or pelvic floor response. If possible kindly do the following tests.

  1. Beta hCG levels of blood.
  2. Thyroid profile.
  3. Hb level and peripheral smear study.
  4. Pap smear of vaginal discharge for microbiology and others like cervicitis.
  5. Urine routine and culture test.
  6. Reproductive hormones profile.
  7. Ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
