Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My cycle is usually 33 days. Last time it came eight days early. Now it is not coming. No sexual activity. I am 30 years old. My CBC is normal. No weight loss or gain. Please guide how to start my period.
Please suggest.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
A late or missed period can happen even in women who usually have regular cycles. Since your normal cycle is about 33 days, and you mentioned that the previous period came eight days early, your body likely has not fully reset hormonally yet. One early or irregular cycle can disturb the next cycle, making it late or sometimes skipped. Because:
You have no sexual activity, and pregnancy is ruled out
Your CBC (complete blood count) is normal.
There is no weight change, illness, or new medications.
You are 30 years old, still within normal reproductive age.
The most likely causes are:
Temporary hormonal imbalance.
Stress (even if you do not feel very stressed).
Minor ovulation delay (if ovulation is late, periods come late).
Early signs of conditions like thyroid imbalance or PCOS- polycystic ovary syndrome (only if this keeps repeating).
How to manage this safely:
Give your body time; many delayed periods come naturally within seven to 14 days.
Maintain regular meals, adequate sleep, and hydration.
Avoid intense exercise or fasting.
Do not take hormones or pills to “start” periods without a doctor’s advice.
You must see a doctor:
If your period does not come after six weeks.
If irregular cycles happen for three consecutive months.
If you develop symptoms like pelvic pain, excessive hair growth, acne, or nipple discharge.
An OB-gynecologist may request hormone tests (TSH- thyroid-stimulating hormone, prolactin, and progesterone) or an ultrasound and prescribe medication only if needed.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
