Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 41, unmarried, and I had protected sex. This month, my periods are not coming. Usually, my periods come before my date. I am very tense.
Please advise.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern, and it is quite common to feel anxious when periods are delayed. Since you had protected intercourse, the chance of pregnancy is low if the protection was used correctly and there was no failure.
Menstrual delay can occur due to several non-pregnancy-related reasons, such as stress or anxiety, hormonal fluctuations, recent illness, travel, changes in routine, sleep disturbance, or weight changes.
In the early 40s, mild cycle variation can also start appearing due to natural hormonal changes. When the body is under physical or emotional stress, ovulation can be delayed, which automatically delays the period. This is a very common mechanism and does not usually indicate any serious underlying problem. I would say at this point, there is no immediate reason to panic. Many cycles regulate on their own once stress levels settle and the body rebalances hormonally.
To guide you more clearly, please let me know how many days it has been since your expected period date. Also, let me know if you have any other symptoms. Based on the exact delay duration, further guidance can be given more accurately.
I hope this helps you. You can message me back if you have any further queries.
Thank you.
