Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been trying to conceive for the last six months, but I am not getting pregnant. My age is 20, and my weight is about 88 pounds.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
At 20 years old and with a low body weight of 88 pounds, the most likely reason you are having difficulty conceiving after six to seven months is that your body may not be ovulating regularly, as being underweight can disturb your hormones and menstrual cycle, making pregnancy harder to achieve.
Here is my advice:
The first step is to work on reaching a healthier weight through a balanced diet with enough calories, proteins, and healthy fats, as even a small weight gain can improve fertility.
You should also get a basic evaluation that includes thyroid tests, prolactin level, and an ultrasound to check your ovaries and uterus, and your partner should have a semen analysis, since both partners contribute to fertility.
Tracking your cycles, monitoring ovulation, and having regular intercourse around your fertile window can also increase your chances.
If your periods are irregular or if you are unable to gain weight, consult a gynecologist so they can check for hormonal issues and guide you with treatment if needed.
The good news is that at your age, with proper weight and cycle regulation, the chances of conceiving are very good.
I hope that this answers your query.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
